Responsibilities
- Design and deliver drainage solutions that align with project objectives, industry standards, and sustainability criteria.
- Conduct hydrological and hydraulic analyses to develop effective drainage systems for rail infrastructure.
- Perform site evaluations to assess drainage requirements and identify potential challenges.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including track, structural, environmental, and geotechnical engineers, to integrate drainage systems into broader project designs.
- Prepare technical documentation, including design calculations, reports, technical drawings, and specifications, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant codes.
- Provide technical input and oversight during construction activities to ensure drainage systems are implemented correctly and efficiently.
- Collaborate with clients, consultants, and contractors to deliver project solutions that exceed expectations.
- Incorporate innovative practices and technologies to improve drainage system performance and resilience.
Qualifications
Essential:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Proven experience in drainage design and delivery, particularly in rail or transport infrastructure projects.
- Proficiency in hydrologic/hydraulic modeling software (e.g., MicroDrainage, InfoWorks, HEC-RAS) and CAD applications (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D).
- Familiarity with applicable standards, codes, and regulations (e.g., Network Rail, Eurocodes, and local drainage laws).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present ideas effectively to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects within deadlines and budgets.
Desirable:
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards professional membership (e.g., ICE, CIWEM).
- Experience in managing stakeholders and delivering large infrastructure projects.
- Knowledge of sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) and environmental impact assessment.
Day-to-day
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop and refine drainage solutions that address project-specific challenges.
- Attend project meetings to discuss progress, technical decisions, and stakeholder feedback.
- Conduct site inspections to monitor existing drainage systems or oversee construction activities.
- Prepare detailed engineering reports, drawings, and presentations to communicate solutions.
- Research and apply emerging technologies and techniques to enhance project outcomes.
- Support the mentoring and development of junior engineers to promote a knowledge-sharing culture.
- Work closely with environmental specialists to ensure compliance with ecological and water management principles.
